Camiral understands the greatest legacy is the one that grows. Every choice made today shapes the world for generations to come.
In the light of this, we ensure our plans will make a positive contribution to the beautiful setting where we are privileged to be located.
Creating a lasting legacy
Camiral’s commitment to the environment has been recognised many times:
- In 2013, it became the first European Tour destination to receive the GEO Certificate from the Golf Environment Organisation.
- In 2020, it received the IAGTO Sustainability Award for Nature Protection in recognition of excellence in environmental and social responsibility.
- In 2023, it was recognised in a new ‘Green 100’ listing by Golf World and GEO Foundation, which identifies Europe’s most environmentally conscious and socially responsible golf courses.
Camiral collaborates closely with renowned Catalan environmental organisation Associació CEN. Together, we ensure the resort is properly managed and maintained. This means stepping away from
traditional golf course management in order to adhere to the European Green Deal and the EU biodiversity strategy 2020-2030.
Thanks to new sustainable energy initiatives, our five-star Hotel Camiral and its new 1,000 m² Wellness Centre have reduced their energy consumption by 50%.
The installation of state-of-the-art air conditioning units, an on-site power station, and extensive use of solar panels have helped Camiral cut its CO2 emissions by 362 tonnes annually.
Water is one of the world’s most precious resources. In the face of growing climate challenges, Camiral takes many steps to conserve and reuse water. These include:
Conserving and protecting
Since 2015, Camiral has integrated biodiversity and conservation into its daily operations. Often, these are closer to measures taken in nature reserves rather than golf courses.
The resort is now a sanctuary to 150 species, a third of which are birds. Other protected and threatened species at home here include eels, fire salamanders, western barn owls, and otters, alongside numerous invertebrates and plants.
Besides enhancing Camiral with their scents and sounds, many of our guest species pay their way by helping keep pests such as mosquitoes and rodents under control.
Camiral’s commitment to conservation has another important dividend. The resort now acts as a connecting hub between the protected natural areas that surround it, include Sils Lake, La Tordera river, and the Montseny Mountains.
Camiral’s rich flora and fauna
Camiral offers residents and guests many opportunities to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of its rich and varied natural heritage. During your time here, taking time to learn more about life in and around Camiral is very rewarding.
